Strut and shock replacement intervals are a little more subjective than just a glance at the odometer. Struts and shocks should be replaced based on their performance more than the miles. Most shocks or struts will last 30,000 to 90,000 miles depending on driving habits and the condition of the roads you drive on. That’s a pretty wide range to depend on mileage alone.

A shock absorber’s only function is to stabilize the vehicle any time it is disturbed such as bumps, stopping, or cornering. If you feel a bit of a bounce after hitting a bump or if the car nosedives when braking or sways too much going around corners, your shocks may need to be replaced.

Your car’s struts perform the same function as the shocks, plus they act as an integral part of the suspension. A strut replaces the upper control arm and ball joint that a conventional independent suspension would have. This means that in addition to the symptoms that would indicate a bad shock, we need to add the possibility of misalignment, noise over bumps, and noise while turning.

Both shocks and struts are filled with oil, which is used to dampen the movement of the suspension. One good indicator that the shock or strut is on it’s way out is leaking fluid. A leaking shock or strut will quickly run out of oil and lose its damping ability.

Bad shocks and struts have been shown to increase stopping distances, decreased cornering control, increased tire wear and increased wear on other suspension components. Even with all of those potential problems, the biggest reason to replace your shocks or struts is the ride feel. Most of the good feelings of being in control and having a car that just feels like it’s put together nicely is a result of having good shocks and struts.

Septic shock is a serious medical condition. During septic shock, the body tissues and organs do not get enough blood and oxygen. Septic shock may progress to cause “adult respiratory distress syndrome,” in which fluid collects in the lungs, and breathing becomes very shallow and labored. Septic shock occurs most often in the very old and the very young. It also occurs in people who have other illnesses. Serious bacterial infections at any body site, with or without bacteremia, usually are associated with important changes in the function of every organ system in the body. Septic shock can lead to multiple organ failure including respiratory failure, and may cause rapid death. Toxic shock syndrome is one type of septic shock. Septic shock is usually preceded by bacteremia, which is marked by fever, malaise, chills, and nausea. The first sign of shock is often confusion and decreased consciousness. Bacteremia may be primary (without an identifiable focus of infection) or, more often, secondary (with an intravascular or extravascular focus of infection).

Septic shock occurs more often in neonates, patients > 35 yr, and pregnant women. Septic shock is severe sepsis with organ hypoperfusion and hypotension that are poorly responsive to initial fluid resuscitation. The condition develops as a response to certain microbial molecules which trigger the production and release of cellular mediators, such as tumor necrosis factors. Toxic shock syndrome most often occurs in menstruating women using highly absorbent tampons. It occurs in about 40% of patients with gram-negative bacteremia and in about 20% of patients with Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia. Hyperventilation with respiratory alkalosis occurs early, in part as compensation for lactic acidemia. Serum HCO3 is usually low, and serum and blood lactate increase. One of the major causes of the condition leading to septic shock is infection by gram negative organism. The cell walls contain endotoxins which trigger the release of inflammatory mediators which causes vasodilation and increase in capillary permeability leading to shock.

Septic shock is a medical emergency. Prompt treatment of bacterial infections is helpful. Septic shock is treated initially with a combination of antibiotics and fluid replacement. Treatment primarily consists of antimicrobial chemotherapy, removal of the source of infection, and haemodynamic, respiratory, and metabolic support. Coagulation and hemorrhage may be treated with transfusions of plasma or platelets. Dopamine may be given to increase blood pressure further if necessary. High doses of intravenous antibiotics are given as soon as blood samples have been taken for laboratory cultures. Surgery may be performed to remove any dead tissue, such as gangrenous tissue of the intestine. Despite all efforts, more than 25% of people with septic shock die. Corticosteroid therapy appears beneficial. Treatment is with replacement, rather than pharmacologic, doses. Scrupulous aseptic technique on the part of medical professionals lowers the risk of introducing bacteria into the bloodstream.

Treatment for Septic Shock Tips

1. Antimicrobial chemotherapy, removal of the source of infection, and haemodynamic, respiratory, and metabolic support.

2. Corticosteroids, especially if combined with a mineralocorticoid, can reduce mortality among patients.

3. Activated protein C can reduce mortality in patients with multi-organ failure.

4. Coagulation and hemorrhage may be treated with transfusions of plasma or platelets.

5. Dopamine may be given to increase blood pressure further if necessary.

6. Surgery may be performed to remove any dead tissue, such as gangrenous tissue of the intestine.

How important is your game controller? Would you say that the game is more important than the controller or that they are equally important? Hard-core PlayStation gamers will definitely agree that they are just as important because in order to enjoy a good game you need to be able to get a good grip of the action and have a feel of what’s going on while you play, if you had an unresponsive controller playing any PlayStation 3 game wouldn’t feel any different than playing a super Nintendo game.

Today we are going to review one of the most important accessories for any PlayStation 3 gamer, the controller. PlayStation has had two official controllers which work with the PS2 gaming console, the first one is a Logitech controller, a better version would be the dual shock 2 and the latest version is the dual shock 3 Sixaxis, let’s take a look at each one of them. Logitech Controller Even though this controller was bundled with several PlayStation units it is not the most convenient and comfortable controller to play with mostly due to the fact that you can’t get a solid grip on the body of the controller and joysticks, the buttons are not pressure sensitive and we can’t say too much about the vibration feature, overall the Logitech controller is pretty much the worse controller that has ever been bundled with a PlayStation unit.

The Dual shock 2 This controller features several dramatic improvements over the Logitech controller, the body is very sturdy and you can get a pretty good grip of this device while playing a game, the buttons are pressure sensitive and you can get full control of the joysticks which also act as buttons, overall this is a very solid game controller.

Enter the Dual Shock 3 Sixaxis – A Customized Gaming Peripheral

This new PlayStation controller takes all the great features from the dual shock 2 in order to make an even better controller. The dual shock 3 is a Bluetooth wireless controller which can be charged through a USB cable that is connected to the console, once it has reached full charge you can unplug it and enjoy all of its Bluetooth wireless gaming capabilities. This game controller uses a lithium-ion battery which makes the controller a bit thicker and heavier than the dual shock 2. Another great feature shown in the dual shock 3 is that the R2 triggers have changed a bit and they now feel more like the triggers of an actual gun. When it comes to the vibration, the dual shock 3 is now able to distribute the intensity of the vibration according to the conditions of the game so if you’re being shot on the right side of your body (in the game of course) the right side of the controller will vibrate more than the left side and vice versa, if you have been playing with the dual shock 2 you know that such controller can’t simulate this experience. The Sixaxis in the dual shock 3 can be thought of as a replacement of the D-Pad, this means that if you tilt the controller forward the game would react the same way as if you were to pressing the top arrow of the D-Pad, the same thing would happen if you were to tilt the controller left, right or backwards. Some gamers may feel that the Sixaxis feature will eventually replace the D-Pad. Overall the dual shock 3 is a very solid controller, it will feel good in your hands and will enhance your PlayStation gaming experience.

You would need new shocks, and or struts if you are currently experiencing one or more of the indications to follow. Worn out, damaged, or leaking. Leaking is the easiest to determine, this is by basically checking for decrease in the fluid level in the reservoir. If the reservoir is not full, look for oil, or wetness on the shocks and struts. While you are at it, check for apparent broken mounts, and dented housing.

If you are not experiencing any of the indications, and did not see any visual leaking signs, however, still unsatisfied with the handling of your car when towing a trailer, or hauling an overload, you may want to consider upgrading the original factory shocks and struts. The upgrade would provide you with improved handling, and a smother drive, given that the new shocks are stronger, and stiffer.

Most people choose to replace the factory shocks and struts on older cars to strictly improve the overall quality of the drive. This eliminates the bouncing and rocking on rough roads. Furthermore, you may decide to upgrade your shocks and struts if you are interested in performance handling. This is archived by upgrading to gas charged shocks and struts. This type is charged with high pressure of nitrogen gas, which minimizes the hydraulic fluid foaming inside the shocks. This essentially reduces fading on rough roads, and assists in maintaining control at sharp turns.

Moreover, there are shocks and struts that fall into a different category. Heavy duty shocks and struts distinguished itself over the factory shocks and struts by a larger diameter pistons. This provides an increased control and improved resistance. Heavy duty shocks and struts are considered by experts to be too harsh for everyday driving. Last but not least, the air-assisted shocks. You would want to consider this type if you are constantly towing a trailer, or hauling extra cargo. It is also known as the overload, surrounded by a coil spring to help increase the loading capacity of the suspension. It may be useful to mention that the overload type dedicates a stiffer ride than the standard shocks, however, is equipped with an adjustable air bladder to assist in carrying extra weight.
